New Zealand's ANDREW THOMAS has been a cherished member of the KOMPAKT stable since 2003. His remarkable ability to weave loops of space and sound have kept us enchanted throughout the years fwith his delicate offerings from the release of his first mini album “Fearsome Jewel” (KOMCD27/KOM86) throughout his numerous contributions to our beloved POP AMBIENT series.. These days, the hustle and bustle of our busy lives keep us often away from the things in life we require to slow things down. That said, Andrew Thomas's music is the perfect antidote. “between buildings and trees” represents a process of uniting new music together with remnants of old cassette/4 track recordings and early digital recordings. Thomas states “when working on this album I would often be looking out to the sea, the hills, the mountains. I would do this a lot in the evenings - dusk, with the sun/light in it's dying moments” . “a dream of a spider” is an ambient dare we say alt-country tune that sets a tone throughout “between buildings and trees” as to how Thomas so paint a very visually inspiring aural depiction in his music. It would be quick to conclude “between buildings and trees” for being melancholic. Take the song “hazer” which shimmers in it's almost cathedral-like illumination. Contemplativeness is more the key to understanding Andrew Thomas' achievement fully as he found his inspirations come from this dimly lit landscape he would so often ponder the recording process of this album over. “Looking out to it, thinking beyond it - this sets up two images, one of your place/position within it, more in a physical sense, the view/s, the land , the place itself and secondly it's the psyche. What's going through your heads when within or looking out to the landscape. So this can become more intimate, personal. It's not just the vastness of the land itself but the intimate moments within it.” We invite you to enjoy Andrew Thomas' beauty and landscape and make your own distance…
