One of the most truly original production talents of recent times, offering a gateway to lesser-known strands of music that need exploring.
Auntie Flo is a central figure in the ‘new strand of club music fusing electronic and world influences alongside the likes of Four Tet, Daphni, Romare, Sinkane and John Wizards’ (Joe Muggs, The Wire, 2013). Originally from Glasgow but now residing in London, he has travelled the world extensively pushing his unique ‘Afro-futurist’ sound either with the Auntie Flo live band or solo as a DJ.
Tours include Africa, Australia, Cuba, America’s and regularly in Europe and the UK. Festival appearances include Glastonbury, Dimensions, Oasis Festival & many more. DJ appearances include the likes of Panorama Bar, Fabric and previous residencies at Glasgow’s Sub Club and London’s Plastic People. He has also performed two live sessions for BBC Radio 1, three Boiler Room broadcasts and a variety of DJ mixes for platforms like Resident Advisor, Groove Magazine and Solid Steel.
Having previously released two well-received albums on Huntleys & Palmers, 2018 saw the release of Auntie Flo’s debut on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings, an album entitled ‘Radio Highlife’. Accompanied by an intricate live show, ‘Radio Highlife’ cites influences from across the globe. The album is a rich patchwork of field recordings, rhythmic drums, original collaborations, personal stories and studio sessions with local musicians from places like Havana, Cape Town, Senegal, Tromsø and more. Auntie Flo’s ‘Radio Highlife’ UK live tour debuts at venues like Sneaky Pete’s, Patterns, 24 Kitchen Street, Ghost Notes and more.
Through his label and party series Highlife (inviting guests like Shackleton, Actress, Awesome Tapes from Africa & more), and monthly radio show on Worldwide FM of the same name (Radio Highlife), Auntie Flo further delves into the music heritage and influences from the places he draws inspiration from.
