Spotlight on Gui Boratto
A small anniversary: With the 10th issue of our digital Artist Spotlights, we pay tribute to our good friend and faithful companion Gui Boratto and thus to the work of a musician who has contributed to the history of KOMPAKT with the really big hits and some unforgettable anthems like hardly anyone else. When Boratto started his unstoppable hit machine a little more than 15 years ago, most KOMPAKT producers were still indulging in the finely balanced post-minimal sound with occasional pop quotations and probably thought this would go on forever. Boratto, on the other hand, took the reduction of minimal and the beauty of pop out of the box only as fitting tools; what he made out of them were larger-than-life tracks, emotional and delicate, but so full of power and energy that they made your arms go up and your eyes get moist on any occasion, be it in the club, open air or big room disco. There is hardly a better example of this unique magic than a short amateur video from 2009, Total 10 party in Cologne, it has already become bright outside, the dance floor is still full, the eyes reddened or pie plate-sized: And Gui Boratto plays "Beautiful Life".
The digital "Artist Spotlight Gui Boratto" contains the six albums "Chromophobia", "Abaporu", "Pentagram", Take My Breath Away", "Backstage" and "III" as well as 14 additional singles and remixes and is available now in the KOMPAKT download store.

Ein kleines Jubiläum: Mit der zehnten Ausgabe unserer digitalen Artist Spotlights würdigen wir unseren guten Freund und treuen Weggefährten Gui Boratto und damit das Werk eines Musikers, der wie kaum ein anderer mit den ganz großen Hits und einigen unvergesslichen Hymnen zur Geschichte von KOMPAKT beigetragen hat. Als Boratto vor etwas mehr als 15 Jahren seine unaufhaltsame Hitmaschine anwarf, frönten die meisten KOMPAKT-Produzenten noch dem fein austarierten Post-Minimal-Sound mit gelegentlichen Pop-Zitaten und dachten wahrscheinlich, das würde ewig so weitergehen. Boratto dagegen nahm sich die Reduktion des Minimal und die Schönheit des Pop allenfalls als passende Werkzeuge aus der Kiste; was er daraus machte, waren überlebensgroße Tracks, emotional und feinfühlig, aber so voller Kraft und Energie, das sie zu jedem Anlass, ob im Club, Open Air oder in der Großraumdisco, die Arme nach oben und die Augen feucht werden ließen. Es gibt kaum ein besseres Beispiel für diese einzigartige Magie als ein kleines Handycam-Video aus dem Jahr 2009, Total 10 Party in Köln, es ist längst hell draußen, die Tanzfläche ist immer noch voll, die Augen gerötet oder Kuchenteller-groß: Und Gui Boratto spielt “Beautiful Life”.
