Animal Jorkes

Jorkes continues to be one of the most exciting talents in electronic music with an erotic return to Live At Robert Johnson that provocatively gets their 2024 underway. Jorkes had a breakout 2023 after many years of working to build a community in their local scene. The Freeride Millenium co-founder is now synonymous with emotionally intense house and disco on labels like Aus, Live At Robert Johnson and Permanent Vacation. At the centre of it all is a dedication to gender, queer and egalitarian attitudes and that plays out when they DJ worldwide,, on the airwaves via their Radio 80000 show and their residency at Stuttgart's Romantica. Opener 'Hot' is an explicit description of an encounter in a gay bathhouse, which follows on from Jorkes running their own HOT events at a sauna in Vienna. It rides on a pulsating and acid-laced bassline with steamy vocals conveying the erotic story with twinkling keys sprinkled up top. It's a brilliantly alluring track that is followed by the 'Garden of Lust'. This one is more slow and just as sensuous with spoken words and elastic basslines. The groove teases and pleases as the bass comes and goes, with organic percussion and retro synth sounds adding the colour. Last but not least is 'Animal' with its whispered vocals and warming chords riding a classic disco-fried house beat. Jorkes's music is always an honest, enthralling expression of self, and this fantastic new EP is no different.
