Teresa Rotschopf & Patrick Pulsinger’s »Drones 01-05« is the sixth release on Martin Hossbach Score (and Rotschopf’s third), a sub-label dedicated to music that could be used for films, both as an underscore or as source music – a library to which everyone has access through download or streaming platforms.

Whilst working on the score for »Das Mädchen aus dem Bergsee«, directed by Mirjam Unger, Rotschopf and Pulsinger realized that drones were a passion they both shared.

Rotschopf explains: »Drones are like little snippets, excerpts from emotional states that you are only exposed to for a certain period of time. So they resemble memories and dreams. They represent archaic, collective consciousness. Patrick and I produced drones in the studio for days, also because we knew we would need a lot of material for the film. We felt completely free and improvised while kneeling and crouching on the floor. By the way, this is also how we’d want to perform live, as a ›drone duo‹. The set-up, consisting of Oberheim OB SX, Korg 800 DV, guitar, looper and Space Echo, is purely analog. This creates a warm, organic sound aesthetic, which, for us, also underlines the recurring moments of threat in the plot of the film. Carrot and stick, so to speak.«
