F5 Saigg

Buenos Aires-based DJ and producer Saigg returns with his first solo EP, “F5”, on Furatena.

“Atracciones” starts with throbbing synth stabs and a menacing melody framing an ongoing, distinctive kick drum and an oppressive, regimented beat sequence evocative of tense, sci-fi scenarios. Still, Saigg carves his own formula: Electro-driven energy layered on a certainly dark sonic palette. The eponymous “Compromiso” follows this feeling, but stands off on a broken, faster, and darker structure; crackling, distorted, and unpolished voice transmissions surround the straightforward, percussion-cadenced cut.

“Encuentro” emerges into ravier territory; a layered robotic vocal reaches out from the depths, while a non-stopping four-on-the-floor beat, flanged hi-hats and metallic snares chase a chromatic, yet dancefloor-focused bassline. On its abrasive surface, “Mod_F5” reintroduces sinister synth shots, ominous atmospheres and arpeggiated melodies on top of a minimalistic, nevertheless functional break-beat.

The EP closes featuring a guest appearance of Oscean, the Tresor-affiliated Argentinian duo present their first-ever remix, reshaping “Compromiso” into intense and broken techno territories. The reassembly highlights a luminous pad and a relentless bassline above the now heavily reverbed and hypnotic vocals, the full recomposition is fueled by a massive kick which disagrees with the glitchy, chrome-toned high-end.
