The two Wahlberliners Jepe and Deckert meet on Feines Tier for their collab FNINY EP that brings out their leftfield indie roots, leading to a result that feels very New York by way of Cologne.

Hey, DJ! Looking for a new slick, trendy, uptempo Mickey Mouse-techno trance release to bang in your livestream? Then this release is not for you, probably. Here we have some New York meet me in the bathroom style indie dance-flavoured tunes with guitar riffs, electric bass lines, vocals and all, some of which even go below 120 bpm!

Btw FNINY stands for FRIDAY NIGHT IN NEW YORK, and how does said night start? Right, with some ASIAN DELI. The tastily interwoven synth arp textures are painting the canvas for guest singer ervyyyy’s delightful vocals, singing about, well, Asian delis. FAROL ramps up the tempo and intensity and definitely sounds like the dudes listened to some LCD Soundsystem at some point in their respective lives, with its acoustic drum beats, dry bass riffs and wall-of-sound guitar layers. The (sorta) title tune brings more of all of that, which, to be clear, is a very good thing. Peak time in New York, baby! Do you remember and value the tunes that Kosi created back in the 2010s with some unearthed Hildegard Knef vocal stems? Then you’ll probably also dig INEXISTENCE, in which singer Sister Sol gives her best German (In-)Existentialist chanting impressions. And let’s not forget about MUSIC IS MY DRUG, which brings us another great guest singer in the form of Gianet and more of that NY disco house goodness, hiding some welcome Metro Area influences in plain sight.
