Since their debut as Brijean, the project of drummer/singer-songwriter Brijean Murphy (the percussive heartbeat for live bands like Mitski, Poolside and Toro y Moi) and multi-instrumentalist/producer Doug Stuart has moved with ingenuity, fusing psych-pop abstraction with dancefloor sensibilities. Through mind and body, rhythm and lyricism, they make sense of the worlds around them and within. 2021's album "Feelings" celebrated self-reflection, 2022's EP "Angelo" processed personal loss and coincided with the duo's first headlining tour. "Macro," out July 2024 on Ghostly International, is Brijean's most cohesive, dynamic, collaborative and song-focused work yet. The band brought various guest musicians into their living room in LA, including Chris Cohen and Khruangbin's "DJ" Johnson Jr. Colorful, collaborative, sophisticated and a lot of fun, the album enlivens a macrocosm of characters, moods and viewpoints rooted in the idea that no feeling is final and the only way out is through.
