In the fall of 2007, a 26-year Cologne-based producer by the name of Daso Franke released his inaugural 12" for Spectral Sound. On the A-side sat "Meine," a euphoric eight-minute ascent that delighted dancefloors around the world. Looking back, Resident Advisor calls it "one of the best tracks to emerge from the golden era of minimal techno." In April of 2018, Franke passed away after a long bout with cancer. With the support of his family and demand from fans, we are making the Meine Idee EP available again in memory of Daso's musical legacy. The repress is limited to an edition of 350 in our Spectral stock jacket series.
"Essential to Meine's charm, that lockdown groove, straight and steady, is a counterweight to the cascading melodies above," Resident Advisor continues in their review. "It's an expert move. By keeping the low-end simple, Franke gives a sturdy platform to the fireworks on top, which build up, down and up again in spouts of chaotic bliss."
The B-side offers two unique looks into Franke's sophisticated simplicity as a composer, starting with the electro-inspired "Idee" and its bubbling melodics. "Deine Schuhe" translates into "Your Shoes," perhaps a nod to the dancefloor or a childhood memory with its snappy hi-hats and mesmerizing compositional vortex.
Daso possessed a unique gift for graceful melody, and the Meine Idee EP captures a moment where it shined brilliantly. His music will live on.
