Established in 2010, the LIFE AND DEATH collective quickly became a household name in the club circuit with just a handful of high quality releases, including the stunning remixes for WhoMadeWho’s “Every Minute Alone” or Pillow Talk’s towering “The Come Back EP”. Now, KOMPAKT is preparing to release THE OUTCAST, the latest offering from co-founder DJ TENNIS and a melancholic dance floor masterpiece indulging in lush vocals and psychedelic intimacy.
It was just a question of time until we would want in: sharing the same melodic sensibilities and a taste for those very special moments on the floor, both Kompakt and Life And Death are labels well-known for their stake in emotionally engaging music, making DJ TENNIS’ latest offering a natural fit for the Kompakt roster. Manfredi Romano aka DJ Tennis is one of the most engaging figures in dance music today; the man behind Italy’s leading event and booking agency Daze and operating the Life And Death imprint, he now steps forward with this breakthrough single THE OUTCAST. Together with the seminal PILLOW TALK, the bustling DJ, producer, event promoter and label head weaves an intricate web of late ‘60s influences, finely-tuned whispers of pop and raw beats rigged up for prime time success, once again proving his uncanny ability to take a handful of influences and ideas and mold them into a great club track that represents more than the sum of its parts. Releasing electronic music as accomplished as this is a feat that doesn’t come without hard work, actual presence of talent or a high degree of passion, so choosing MORGAN GEIST as a remixer was kind of a no-brainer, as the co-producer behind legendary projects such as Metro Area or Storm Queen is both famed and feared for his perfectionism in the studio... not only rendering accurate replicas of early 80s Disco B-sides, but brilliantly updating a classic vibe for a modern audience. His elegant remix for “The Outcast” is no exception as it takes the track into jacking territory while keeping the original mood very much intact. LIFE AND DEATH’s own Dark Mix stays in the picture while extracting the emotional core: it’s a quintessential rework that makes for a haunting listening experience as it wanders the labyrinthine, delay- laden corridors of a mind indulging in splendid isolation. It should be clear by now that LIFE AND DEATH’s definition of darkness is neither gothic nor gory, but charts the darker side of the moon, painting a psychedelic picture filled with gloriously radiating shadows and bright strokes of analogue melancholy. That and some highly infectious grooves that will find your hands in the air, waving them because you care.

DJ TENNIS’ neues Meisterwerk passt da hervorragend ins Bild: Als eines der aufregendsten neuen Talente in der aktuellen Tanzmusik hat Manfredi Romano aka DJ Tennis das Life And Death-Label mitbegründet und mit Daze auch noch eine der wichtigsten Event- und Bookingagenturen Italiens geschaffen. Nun tritt er mit dem Ausnahmetrack THE OUTCAST ins Rampenlicht, entstanden in Kooperation mit den einzigartigen PILLOW TALK.
