From the borderlands between faux Pop and cheerful science comes Cologne's multi-instrumentalist Gregor Schwellenbach, who separated 20 Kompakt classics (20th anniversary, get it?) from their dance roots and re-recorded them as alternative chamber music, radically shifting up some of the numerous evergreens hiding in our back catalogue. Aficionados of musical synthesis aren't the only ones likely to rub their ears in wonder when celebrated techno bangers suddenly drop as beatless, melancholic piano miniatures or hard-hitting gong workouts... played by an antique Gamelan orchestra. Hot, hot, hot! "Gregor Schwellenbach spielt 20 Jahre Kompakt" is out now as CD and deluxe 2LP edition: both come in a book-style packaging and include an extensive booklet with liner notes, photographies, easily playable piano scores for solo pieces and scores for ensemble pieces.
