The Japanese DJ and producer Hiroshi Watanabe aka KAITO has been an integral part of the Kompakt label family since the beginning of the noughties and is considered a specialist for his very own interpretations of the genres Ambient, Deep House and above all Trance.

He has addressed the subject of trance, or let's say the special Kaito version of Trance, on numerous 12”s and albums. In July 2001, this long and intimate liaison between Hiroshi Watanabe and Kompakt began with the 12inch "Beautiful Day". Kaito's music has always been characterized by a great deal of ambivalence. His biography, which led him to study in Boston and later to New York, where he began his DJ career, and his consequent involvement with the early American House music scene, clearly left a mark on his work. Kaito's pieces shimmer and glisten in all the colors of the rainbow. At the same time, Watanabe's tracks, despite their superficial simplicity, are complex compositions that reconcile the enigmatic Japanese with the sobriety of Western minimal music.

Another special feature of Kaito's oeuvre are the beat-free versions he regularly produced of his own tracks - an art that can be heard especially on the legendary mini-LP "Special Love" from 2003.
