Should NASA one day send another "Golden Record" into space to inform our neighbours in the universe briefly about what is happening on earth and come up with the obvious idea of adding an exemplary sample for the electronic dance music of the late nineties aka Minimal aka Micro House aka Sound Of Cologne, we recommend the first thirty seconds of Dettinger's track "Blond 1". A throbbing bass drum, a gentle loop, plus a rhythmic clacking. The sound of KOMPAKT in a petri dish. After 45 seconds, a hi-hat kicks in. Ts-Ts-Ts-Ts.
Of course, this musical milestone is a late harvest from 1998, a year so full to the brim with groundbreaking music that NASA might as well put it all on a USB stick. The aliens would be amazed.
Because 1998 marked the birth of the KOMPAKT label. The first four 12inches were "Triumph" and "Glanz" by Jürgen Paape, Michael Mayer's "17 & 4" and "Blond" by Olaf Dettinger. In a museum, this quartet would probably get its own room.
On vinyl, these gems have all been sold out for a long time. Time for a re-release or two! The first one is catalogue number 002, the lovingly remastered 4-track EP "Blond" by Dettinger.
