Kompakt - The Early Years (1998 - 2004) - Compiled By Michael Mayer
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about the "golden age" of KOMPAKT's long and eventful history. For example, in our Google Arts & Culture exhibition "The History of Kompakt" or in the course of our new DJ Mix series "Connecting The Dots" – looking back at this wild, crazy and extremely productive phase is associated not only for many of the protagonists at the time, but also for many fans and friends of KOMPAKT, with the memory of something special, something that may not come back again.
What is meant is the time at the end of the nineties, the founding years after the renaming of the record shop and the birth of KOMPAKT as a label and company, and the following, very successful and creative years at the beginning of the new millennium. At the end of these so-called noughties, the compilation "Kompakt - The Early Years (1998 - 2004) - Compiled By Michael Mayer" was released exclusively for Pitchfork as a part of a feature on Kompakt.
Musically, Jürgen Paape's "So Weit Wie Noch Nie" brings this highly exciting retrospective to the point, remixed by the living legend Ata Macias, in whose Robert Johnson Club the golden years took place regularly and were duly celebrated. With tracks by Closer Musik, Dettinger, Superpitcher, Dorau/Köhncke, Lawrence and Sascha Funke, other heroes of those early days are represented whose tracks have lost none of their glory to this day.

Zuletzt war immer mal wieder die Rede vom "goldenen Zeitalter" innerhalb der langen und ereignisreichen KOMPAKT Geschichte. So zum Beispiel in unserer Google Arts & Culture-Ausstellung "Die Geschichte von Kompakt" oder im Zuge unserer neuen DJ Mix-Serie "Connecting The Dots" – mit dem Blick zurück in diese wilde, verrückte und dabei äußerst produktive Phase verbinden nicht nur viele der damaligen Protagonisten, sondern auch viele Fans und Freunde von KOMPAKT die Erinnerung an etwas Besonderes, an etwas, was vielleicht so nicht wiederkommt.
Gemeint ist die Zeit Ende Neunziger Jahre, die Gründerjahre nach der Umbenennung des Plattenladens und die Geburt von KOMPAKT als Label und Firma, und den darauf folgenden, sehr erfolgreichen und kreativen Jahren Anfang des neuen Jahrtausends. Am Ende dieser sogenannten Nuller Jahre erschien die Compilation "Kompakt - The Early Years (1998 - 2004) - Compiled By Michael Mayer" exklusiv für Pitchfork im Rahmen eines Features über Kompakt.
Musikalisch auf den Punkt bringt diesen längst nicht nur nostalgischen, sondern auch höchst spannenden historischen Rückblick einmal mehr Jürgen Paape’s "So Weit Wie Noch Nie", hier im Remix der lebenden Legende Ata Macias, in dessen Robert Johnson Club die goldenen Jahre damals regelmäßig stattfanden und gebührend gefeiert wurden. Mit Tracks von Closer Musik, Dettinger, Superpitcher, Dorau/Köhncke, Lawrence und Sascha Funke sind weitere Helden dieser Zeit vertreten, deren Tracks bis heute nichts von ihrem Glanz eingebüßt haben.
