With today's newsletter we turn to a new star in the sparkling Kompakt label firmament: It goes by the beautiful name of IMARA and is curated by Michael Mayer. IMARA's first release last September, a re-release of the 1973 album "Try And Love" by the Nigerian psychedelic funk rock band Ofege, already caused a stir - a thoroughly surprising choice and a clear indication that this is not just another DJ label.

With the debut EP "Servicio al Cliente" by Juliana Martínez aka Servicio al Cliente, the second release is already in the starting blocks this Friday. And also this time IMARA explores musically, stylistically as well as geographically not yet completely trodden paths.

In the six enchanting songs of her EP, Colombian-born Martínez transports both joy and melancholy, flattering pop melodies underpinned by electronic arrangements as intimate as they are unusual.

The songs of Servicio al Cliente came to Michael Mayer via a rather unusually packaged demo. Instead of the usual Soundcloud or Dropbox link, Michael found a beautifully designed website with an integrated MP3 player. The slightly surreal artwork in combination with the heartwarming, in a positive sense naive music of Servicio al Cliente obviously broke his heart immediately.

Mit unserem heutigen Newsletter wenden wir uns einem neuen Stern am funkelnden Kompakt Label-Firmament zu: Es hört auf den schönen Namen IMARA und wird kuratiert von Michael Mayer. Die Songs von Servicio al Cliente kamen über ein recht ungewöhnlich verpacktes Demo zu Michael Mayer.
