KOMPAKT – the Cologne based institution for electronic music has for over 28 years released over 15,000 tracks of all styles, shape and form. This puts us in a unique position, and so we are proud to launch a new mix series entitled CONNECTING THE DOTS. This series serves as an outlet for DJs to dig deep into the catalogue and pull out their unique vision of what inspires them about our labels.
We understand that most listeners prefer to listen to our releases in the mix and over the last decade thanks to the irresponsibility of the music industry, most have expected DJ mixes to be freely available and consumed at an irrationally rapid rate. Up until recently, DJs have been the ones who have financially gained the most while the ones that provide the beat – the musicians - more often than not have little or no gain from their music being used in mixes and struggle to make ends meet. CONNECTING THE DOTS sets out to help rectifying this situation.
It’s only fitting that the CONNECTING THE DOTS should be inaugurated by the one DJ that knows KOMPAKT’s catalogue best - label co-owner and DJ, Michael Mayer. With over 30 years of DJing under his belt, his IMMER and FABRIC mixes have earned plenty of acclaim as two of the best DJ mix releases ever. Staying true to his own traditions, Michael’s CONNECTING THE DOTS mix excels in his ability to provide a feeling in hope and beauty that emits Michael’s trademark introspectiveness.

KOMPAKT hat in den vergangenen 28 Jahren über 15.000 Tracks in allen Formen und Farben veröffentlicht. Dies versetzt uns in die einzigartige Lage, eine neue, nur auf unser Label (und die diversen Sublabels) fokussierte Mix-Reihe zu starten: CONNECTING THE DOTS. Für diese Serie dürfen sich DJs in die prall gefüllten Archive abseilen, um anhand des erbeuteten Materials ihre ureigene musikalische Geschichte des Labels zu erzählen.
Es ist nicht weiter verwunderlich, dass die meisten Leute unsere Musik am liebsten in gemixter Form konsumieren. Während des letzten zehn Jahre und leider bedingt durch das unverantwortliche Handeln der Musikindustrie, hat sich dabei die Haltung durchgesetzt, dass DJ-Mixe immer und überall umsonst verfügbar sein müssen, um dann in atemberaubendem Tempo konsumiert zu werden. Oft waren DJs die Profiteure dieser Situation, während jene Menschen leer ausgingen, die eigentlich für den Beat gesorgt habe - die Musiker. CONNECTING THE DOTS hat sich vorgenommen hier einen neuen Standard zu setzen. Jeder hier vertretene Künstler wird für jeden Stream oder Download auch fair bezahlt.
